Communi-Teas and Coffee

Funded by The National Lottery Community Fund

Frames of Mind and Matt Ponting worked with the Skills Development Group at Chargeable Lane Resource centre to co-design a logo and branding for their catering Initiative ‘Communi-Teas & Coffee’.

Communi-teas & Coffee (CT&C) is a pioneering catering initiative run by people with learning disabilities from the Skills Development Group (SDG) at Chargeable Lane Resource Centre, providing refreshments for Council, Library and community events.

SDG manager Stephen Irvine invited Frames of Mind to work with the group to co-devise a logo and branding for CT&C, to improve their visibility and reach across Newhams communities and provide vital opportunities for participants to be employed in meaningful activities.

Colour and Meaning
Through a series of creative digital activities, using iPads, SDG explored the importance and purpose of logos, how to communicate emotions and implied function through colour and design.

Shape Shifting
Community artist Matt Ponting worked with the group using print and collage to play with themes surrounding the words ‘café and community’, what does it mean? how can we represent it?

Frames of Mind took the group on some site visits to other cafés for inspiration, to the Dialogue sign language Café UEL – Docklands campus, 1000 Dockside and Canning town library.

The new CT&C logo and branded equipment was unveiled at a celebratory launch event at CLRC attended by invited guests from the LBN, staff, family and partners along with the premier screening of the co-produced short documentary: link attached.

FOM trained staff in the creative apps used during CT&C project and as part of the legacy 3 iPads were purchased for CLRC.

The new CT&C branding celebrates difference and emphasises the important role PWLD can contribute to our communities. CT&C have increased their bookings and are hoping to take over the Café in Canning Town Library.
