FULL CYCLE STREET PARTY

Heritage Lottery Fund press release

To launch the Full Cycle Heritage QR Bike Trail, Frames of Mind threw a Street Party!

The car free, bike-themed event was held in Odessa Road, E7, already a Low Traffic Neighbourhood, it provided the perfect location for the event. With massive support from Newham Council, residents, businesses, community & cycling organisations and Odessa Road’s DJ, Jan Holloway, people partied in the street and found out more about the heritage on their doorstep.

Bikeworks supplied a van load of All Ability bikes for locals to try out and Newham Bookshop sold local heritage and cycling related literature. Dr Bike engineers fixed bikes for free!

Activities included, ‘Decorate Your Ride’, inspired by ‘The Woodford Meet’ fancy dress charity bike ride, attended by thousands in late 19th Century. Residents also enjoyed peddling the Bike Generator Sound-System and creating a sustainable Mini Greenhouse, lead by Up Garden.

Ted and Martin Etty and long-time customers from Etty & Tyler, Motor Cycle & Cycle Repairs joined us too.

The event was attended by over 200 residents and 35 people tried out the All Ability Bikes. Local Cycling Organisations, Newham Cyclists, Cycle Sisters and Joy Riders lead guided tours of the Full Cycle Heritage Bike Trail, before riding into the party.

“33 visitors tried out our cycles, including a young girl with a visual impairment who had not ridden a trike before and will now be visiting our clubs.”
